Bomber jackets: from street to catwalk

This garment, once a staple in the sports world, now has its place on the catwalk. We’re referring to the bomber jacket, which we saw so often in the changing rooms of American teen movies, worn by high school athletes, and which became so popular in the 70s. Yes, this is now the most recreated trend by top designers.

rebel

The garment stashed away in your wardrobe has been given a new lease of life, losing its sports connection and becoming the hit of the season and the favourite of celebrities, editors, and fashionistas alike. As well as being a comfortable, wearable jacket you won’t have to abandon it in the wardrobe until next winter; you can also enjoy it on cooler nights in spring and summer. It complements and goes well with jeans, shorts or even dresses.

CARA1

We at Pepe Jeans have created two different models that perfectly exemplify the jacket worn by James Dean in his glory days. College type or in pure Andy Warhol style, is how Pepe Jeans interprets this classic which has been resurrected by brands.

Pepe Jeans celebrates its 40th anniversary with the Portuguese fashion bloggers

After the highly successful afternoon soirée we organised in Amsterdam and Madrid, it’s now time to relive the experience with the most famous bloggers in Portugal!

Our 40th anniversary gave us the perfect excuse to get together with Portuguese ‘influencers’ Amberhella, Mini-Saia, Cuttingedge, Styleitup, Thestilettoeffect and Marcasporamor and to get an up-close look at the Spring Summer 2013 collection which you can now buy in our Pepe Jeans store and in our online store.

A customisation table awaited them, where they could personalise in whichever they wished the limited edition t-shirts we designed to mark our 40th anniversary and which you’ll be able to get hold of very soon!

Mini-Saia made a beeline for the colours, choosing the Paula fuchsia-pink bag to complement her look. Cuttingedge swathed herself head to toe in the Pepe look, choosing an Anouk shirt, Cher jeans and Messy ankle boots.

The Seapunk phenomenon

If you’ve seen it on the street, in magazines or in fashion blogs I’m sure it caught your attention. Touches of trash, marine motifs and lots of pink, green, blue and even metallic shades – that’s the seapunk phenomenon, a trend that is quickly gaining ground and consists of a new style concept that promises to change more than just your wardrobe.

2894084774-1_0

Azealia-Banks-SPIN-magazine-3

The seapunk phenomenon first emerged on Twitter in 2011 and rapidly spread through the Web, inspiring designers of such stature as Karl Lagerfeld. The characteristic of this trend is based on the use of aquatic references combined with a punky twist. And the underground style that’s now sweeping across the world has also influenced the world of fashion and beauty.

Seapunk is literally worn from head to toe! Hair trends have also experienced the impact of this paraphernalia of colours that we would never have thought would become fashionable. In a universe of iridescent colours, sequins, mother of pearl and psychedelic prints, there’s no reason why hair should be excluded. Pink, green and blue are starting to upstage brown, blond, and black, resulting in pure extravagance. Celebrities like Rihanna and Katy Perry have further popularised the phenomenon with their appearances.

Are you daring enough for this marine lifestyle?

Trend Alert: Say yes to pastel colours!

We saw them first appear last Spring-Summer and the shop windows were awash with them in no time whatsoever. And it looks like pastel colours are back again for another season, to draw out our sweeter, more feminine side! So if you’ve already succumbed to sweet temptation then you’ve made the right choice, because this trend give’s you a touch of chic, even if you opt for the more tomboyish look.

For those of you who haven’t done it yet, it’s time to say goodbye to those dark shades and embrace the colours that are going to dominate this Spring-Summer season. Creams, mint green, yellows, pinks and orange shades – this summer’s going to be more pastely and fruity than ever.

We know these are difficult colours to match up and that the risk of getting it wrong is high so, to avoid bad taste, we are proposing a series of outfits with the most suitable Pepe Jeans garments for this trend.

LOOK 1

The top brands have their bets on pastel blue this season! There’s a huge range of blue shades, but none have the delicacy and innocence to match pastel blue. It goes perfectly with golden shades in heeled or flat sandals and also in accessories.

LOOK 2

We know pink is a tricky shade, but if we combine pink sandals with a white dress with a subtle print in pastel shades, we’ll get the balance we need for this style.

Superstitions aside, yellow is not particularly popular due to the difficulty of matching it with other colours. But with the right footwear we can achieve a more wearable result. How is it done? By combining it with cream-coloured sandals and a blue scarf.

So you see, whether plain or print, pastel shades can be very flattering. They’re certainly great colours and spot-on for spring!

Pepe Jeans celebrates its 40th Anniversary with the Spanish fashion bloggers

The blogger celebrations continue! Last week we told you about the great time we had with our favourite fashion bloggers from Netherlands, and this time it’s the turn of the Spanish bloggers! I’m sure many of you will recognise the names of Lady AddictCollage Vintage, MyPeepToes, and All That She Wants, and of course Miss Marbles, the Johansson SistersBartabac and Diary Of Style. The bloggers made sure to find a gap in their busy international agendas to visit us at our Madrid offices and share a sweet London-style ‘high tea’ with us.

In an atmosphere 100% British, with cupcakes and all sorts of other cakes, blue, white and red tablecloths, vinyl records and some rock & roll in the background, the girls just couldn’t resist the treat we’d prepared for them.  The British-style cake dominating the table had them gathered round all afternoon and together we blew out the candles on the huge cake we had to celebrate our 40th anniversary this year.

After that, our guests were eager to try on their favourite garments from our Spring Summer 2013 collection. Pastel and fluorescent colours, super skinny trousers, ethnic prints, and especially a lot of Pepe attitude, was what they paraded in our most British of photocalls.

Pepe Jeans would like to thank the eight bloggers who joined us for this wonderful evening. You can come back and visit us any time you like! :D

Pepe Jeans celebrates its 40th anniversary with the Dutch fashion bloggers

Everybody knows that #pepelovesbloggers, so we at Pepe Jeans wanted to round up our favourite fashion bloggers from four European cities to celebrate our 40th anniversary this year.

The first city chosen was Netherlands, where Pepe Jeans organised an exclusive event at which over 30 fashion bloggers and editors of leading magazines such as Vogue and Glamour were present. Everybody had the chance to see, touch and try on a selection of garments from our Spring-Summer 2013 collection.

In a showroom decorated in pure British style, in keeping with the origins of the brand, our Dutch guests could customise their favourite clothes however they liked and immortalise their presence at the event with a photoshoot in true ‘Andy Warhol’ style.

Pepe Jeans wishes to thank all the bloggers from Netherlands who joined us for our 40th anniversary! We hope to celebrate many more years with you!

What do you think to be the new it girl and face of the hottest Bristish brand within its 40 anniversary having in mind other it girls and tops such as Alexa Chung, Sienna Miller or Laetitia Casta who also played the main role in the past Pepe Jeans campaigns?

I’m very happy to be part of the team, considering the line up before me. Alexa and Sienna are also great friends of mine.

Who is your favorite of them or who do you think is more similar to you in style terms?

My style is a mixture of both although I’m more tom boyish than either of them. They dress very casually, but still look very chic all the time.

Having started life on the streets of London’s Notting Hill and constantly taking inspiration from London’s cultural roots for its collections, Pepe Jeans London is gearing up to celebrate their 40th anniversary this year. How would you congratulate the brand for its 40th birthday?

It’s an amazing achievement for a brand to be around this long, Congratulations !!

What song would you chose to celebrate the 40 anniversary of Pepe Jeans London?

Bohemian Rhapsody

Tell us about shooting the Pepe Jeans London campaign? How was it?

It was great, I worked with Josh Olins who is brilliant and lovely, I loved the whole team so much, they are all brilliant.

Timeless, cool, effortless, chic, casual

Which are your favorite pieces from the Pepe Jeans London SS13 collection?

I like all the skinny jeans in the different colour ways, especially the pale blue and all the cool Andy Warhol tops

What are your staple wardrobe denim pieces?

Definitely skinny jeans, and if I’m feeling jazzy then maybe I’ll wear Double Denim.

Which item in your closet would you save first in case of fire, and why?

Definitely my leather jacket!

IMG_1870

Fashion, what a word plenty of meaning, what does it means for you?

For me, it means the biggest, most unconventional “family” and support group which I could never replace.

How has modeling changed your life?

I now know a lot more about fashion, I have a lot more clothes, beautiful clothes, and I have made some special friends and travelled a lot.

What do you like most about your job?

Travelling, the people I meet and the people I work with

You are featured in lots of different fashion shoots, wearing high end designers to high street, describe your own personal style.

I’m a Tomboy by day, and for the red carpet I pick a character and project that person. I can wear anything and feel allright if I can make that part work.

What advice do you have for other aspiring models?

Don’t let people knock you down, keep grounded and be happy and have a great agent – and have a good relationship with them.

Who are some of your favorite models and why?

Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, and also Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy, all very iconic and individual

IMG_9819

What do you think distinguishes a good model from a bad one?

It’s not just about looking pretty, it’s about capturing the character that the client wants,it’s about being a chameleon.

What’s your best fashion week memory ever?

Opening the Chanel show in Versailles was exceptional, you only get to find out if you are actually opening the show moments before, and it’s nerve wracking and thrilling and brilliant.

What’s the best style lesson you’ve ever learned?

I’m still learning and I like to be myself.

How would you describe with only one word London Fashion? And NY fashion? Frenchfashion? Please choose one adjective to each of the most important main fashion cities.

I need more words !! for London it’s original, creative, iconic, influential, graphic NY is unique, edgy, definitive, organised, and Paris is classic, elegant, timeless, tres chic

IMG_0691

You are known for playing many roles: you’re the sex bomb on the runway and thefunniest girl on the planet backstage. Are you really this way or this is some kind of acharacter?

I’m still very young and changing all the time. I am learning and growing, and itdepends how I feel, sometimes I will be the sex bomb but most of the time I’m the funny girl. Since I was young I wanted to entertain people so no matter what I’m doing I’m always going to be the entertainer. I always like to have fun.

If could choose a century to live in, which one would it be and which role would you like to play in it?

Coco Chanel, Cleopatra , Mary Queen of Scots (without the beheading) or Joan of Arc, I would love to play all of them in films.

Who is you favourite British fashion icon? Which famous Londoner’s do you think have great style?

Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Alexa Chung

IMG_1963

I’ll be wearing really light blue jeans, but I love any coloured jeans, I would love some multi coloured jeans.

What’s your favourite way to style skinny jeans?

Oh I just wear them with trainers or boots, t.shirts and my leather jkt.

Although you are The Model of the Year (British Fashion Awards) you also have acting ambitions and you play the drums. What makes your heart beat faster: acting, modelling or playing the drums? Any more hidden talents?

I love to sing, and obviously playing the drums makes my heart beat loud, it’s incredibly physical. Playing Anna Karenina was probably the best days of my career and made me want to do a lot more acting.

With this in mind who are currently your favourite music artists/bands and what is your all-time favourite movie?

True Romance, Rhianna, Azalea Banks, also a lot of my friends are great musicians, and I love Al Green, Marvin Gaye and Lauren Hill

After making your debut at the Victoria’s Secret Show, you claimed the title of Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards, and has been labeled “the new Kate Moss” by Mario Testino. How does it feel like to be seen as the “next big thing”?

It’s crazy to be even be considered in the same calibre as Kate, it’s a huge compliment but scary even to be mentioned in the same breath.

IMG_9878

You are a strong young woman, what’s the best advice some one has ever given you?

Azealia told me to keep my mouth shut and to just get on with things and to finish the job.

The more success grows, the more visible you are and the more judgment there is. How do you cope with that?

I have a great support network, my family, my model agency Storm, people I work with in the fashion industry and of course all my followers on Twitter who stop me from feeling lonely, I love them all, they keep grounded.

Being so young, and working in the same industry as your sister, is she your role model? Who is the one that gives better advice to the other? Do you enjoy working together?

I always look up to Poppy, she’s always there for me giving me the best advice, I couldn’t have done so much without her.

IMG_1908

Which fashion job would you love to get?

Chanel cosmetics !! and I would love to design my own range of t.shirts, really beautiful and simple t.shirts, I love them and wear them all the time and I can never find really plain ones. The devil is in the detail.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Living on a desert island catching fish and growing vegetables…..and also with a couple of albums and some movies under my belt!

Thank you very much

Cropped Tops

The 90s are back with one of the garments that best characterises the decade. We mean the cropped top, a short top that shows off your midriff and which looks set to be the big thing in street style for the coming season. Basic pieces, and with a multitude of different prints to choose from, this is what we’ll see in the shop windows this spring and summer; and like any trend that comes back into our wardrobe, it’s somewhat daring.

7289003682

Apparently it’s the new summer staple, but I’m sure many of you will be a bit reticent because of the physique this piece calls for, or because you think it’s tricky to combine with other pieces. So how do we wear the cropped top? High-waisted trousers are a must, so forget about low waists as they won’t give you that touch of elegance you’re looking for. You can wear the tops with high-waisted wide-leg trousers which, as well as being complemented perfectly by a short, tight-fitting top, will also flatter your figure. Add a classic masculine blazer for a more dressed-up look if you‘re going to an event that calls for something smart. For a casual look, high-waisted skirts and shorts are a good option for sporting the cropped top in style and comfort. You’ll look great and won’t need to stress about finding another garment.

It’s time for some 90’s inspiration. Cropped tops are back and they’re likely to be a prominent feature in our wardrobes over the next few seasons. As you can see, it’s not so hard to get it right with this trend; just follow the advice we’ve given you, adapt it to suit your own style, and go and flaunt that midriff! Are you daring enough?
